Wikibus from London

Has this been mentioned anywhere here? WMUK: Projects in incubation/Wikibus to Esino Lario Samwilson (talk) 11:36, 27 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

Thanks Samwilson. Please let us know if you need any info from Esino Lario and please (please! please!) no more than 35 seats: otherwise you'll have troubles getting around Esino. all the best. --iopensa (talk) 15:14, 27 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

Wikibus from Malpensa Airport to Esino Lario

Hi. On the Journey/Airports page, it is mentioned that such a bus service is organized. Waiting for more info on departure dates/times, cost, and also if a return trip is planned. Cheers, Rehman 12:52, 2 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

I also have a similar question regarding the Bergamo Orio al Serio airport. odder (talk) 13:13, 13 March 2016 (UTC)Reply
Any update on this? --Stryn (talk) 07:44, 3 June 2016 (UTC)Reply
Hey. Any update on the return trip? I need to be at MXP at 19:00 on the 27th, so I am looking forward to joining the 16:00 bus (if it does not get delayed), or the 14:00 bus. Is there any page to sign-up, to be sure there is a seat and/or no one is missed? Also, where is Piazza Bertarini, as it does not show on the map :(. Cheers, Rehman 07:51, 26 June 2016 (UTC)Reply

Local buses from Varenna station to Esino Lario

Do we know the timetable for the local buses during the conference? The only thing I could find is this timetable which is a bit disappointing as I am only able to arrive at Varenna around 19:45, and I fear I might not be the only person left without any transport other than a taxi (in which case I guess people would just share). odder (talk) 13:09, 13 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

Hi odder. Normally, the last bus is in the late afternoon, but now our team is working on an agreement with the local public transport company to increase the service, for Wikimania participants and also because we have some volunteers who are students from Lecco (wich is 40 km from Esino). More details will be available shortly (the agreement also depend on number of wikimaniacs will stay in Varenna and Perledo). --Yiyi 16:10, 13 March 2016 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the swift response, @Yiyi. odder (talk) 16:42, 13 March 2016 (UTC)Reply
Hello! I am going to arriba to Varenna past midday. Thanks to @odder: for the timetable! --Lluis tgn (talk) 10:07, 10 June 2016 (UTC)Reply

What does "taxi" mean?

Hi, the Thursday trips from Malpensa to Esino - what does the "(taxi)" mean for the 11am, 3pm and 9pm slots? Also, how do we register or buy tickets? Thanks. -- Fuzheado (talk) 23:34, 9 June 2016 (UTC)Reply

If the number of people (with full scholarships and people who bought a ticket) arriving at the airport at a specific time was below 5, we planned a taxi. The remaining available seats will be on sale shortly (as soon as we have the busses added on the eventbrite). --iopensa (talk) 12:54, 15 June 2016 (UTC)Reply

Busses from and to the airports

The eventbrite to get the remaining tickets for the direct busses from the airport to Esino Lario and from Esino Lario to the airports and Milan is open. --iopensa (talk) 22:45, 15 June 2016 (UTC)Reply

According to Ellie, "if WMF arranged and booked your travel (e.g., most WMF staff, board and scholarship recipients) you already have a reservation on the shuttle". This is not reflected on the Journey pages though. (But I'm sure you're checking how many people booked twice, etc.) --Elitre (talk) 07:02, 16 June 2016 (UTC)Reply

Does this mean that people with WMF arranged flight should make no additional reservation using some discount code, right? -- Magioladitis (talk) 10:54, 20 June 2016 (UTC)Reply

Early morning busses to the airport

For those scheduled for a 4 a.m. Monday morning bus from Esino Lario, how are we to navigate with our luggage to the pick-up location and return keys, get refund of deposit, and such while it is still pitch dark of night and quiet throughout the village. Is there a plan in place to support our transfer to the bus pick-up and our "check-out" from our host places on this morning? - JAnstee (WMF) (talk) 02:43, 25 June 2016 (UTC)Reply

+1. And where, exactly, is the Piazza Bertarini? It doesn't show up on our maps, and I didn't see it anywhere in the village it could be. I am in the 24-hour room at the school right now because it has the best wireless. On my way here I stopped at the Villa Coltilde, where, according to the program, there is supposed to be someone present 24 hours to answer, I presume, such inquiries.

Instead, I saw the whole building dark and a couple of local teens smoking on the steps. I could not tell if they were volunteers; I think I could be forgiven for presuming they weren't. I would really like to know how this will go by tomorrow evening. Daniel Case (talk) 20:39, 25 June 2016 (UTC)Reply

@JAnstee (WMF): Actually, I took the time to check this out and "....while it is still pitch dark of night..." will not quite be the case. At this time of year here, astronomical twilight begins at 3 a.m. so the sky will be beginning to lighten as we huff and puff through the village streets. Nautical twilight, the next stage, "the incipient intimations of proximate dawn"' begins at 4:08, shortly after the bus (hopefully) leaves, so darkness should not be quite so much of a problem. Daniel Case (talk) 21:39, 25 June 2016 (UTC)Reply
OK, I went out to the registration desk this morning and got answers.
  • The bus stop in the village is Piazza Italia.
  • Which means someone can, and will, be there to check us out.
So, no worries. Daniel Case (talk) 09:10, 26 June 2016 (UTC)Reply
