Wikimania:Requests

From Wikimania 2016 • Esino Lario, Italy
Latest comment: 8 years ago by Lingveno in topic Hackathon tab to Wikimania 2016 left side bar

Ask here if you need help for this wiki, like deletions, permission changes or other administrative activities. Bureaucrats and administrators are watching (if they don't reply, just message them directly)! When asking for a flag, remember to state the specific task it's needed for.

Misc requests for an administrator

Could an administrator import the following (rather essential) templates via Special:Import:

  1. m:Template:Documentation and the subpages needed to make it work
  2. w:en:Template:Tl
  3. w:en:Template:Tlx
  4. w:en:Template:Clear
  5. A lot more I haven't thought of yet but will mention when I remember

Other requests:

  • (Semi-?)Protect Main Page
  • Because I might be making these types of requests rather frequently, the b'crat, admin, and translation admin flags would be appreciated (but in no way completely needed)

Cheers, --L235 (talk) enwiki 02:54, 6 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for offering to help and for what you do on wm2015! I've imported those templates from Meta, only latest revision. I've not protected the main page because we've not had to revert any edit yet.
I'm making you sysop now, for the other flags I'd first like to see some previous activity. Can you watch pages around? Please do as above and import stuff only when a need arises. Many things are still to decide, including what stuff will live here or on Meta; don't be afraid to ask a second opinion for anything on this page. :) --Nemo 10:00, 7 March 2015 (UTC)Reply
@Nemo bis: Understood, thank you. --L235 (talk) enwiki 03:32, 9 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

Import request

Could someone import Module:Template translation? There is no source given, so an import would be very nice. Kind regards, --Brackenheim (talk) 22:09, 26 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

And maybe Module:Template translation/doc would be useful, too. --Brackenheim (talk) 22:11, 26 March 2015 (UTC)Reply
Done. Although the revision creating that module at Meta didn't attribute authors either... --Nemo 19:41, 3 April 2015 (UTC)Reply
Thank you. --Brackenheim (talk) 21:22, 3 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

Brackenheim and L235 flags

@Nemo: Would you be so kind to give me tranlation admin rights to keep Special:PageTranslation up to date? --Brackenheim (talk) 22:19, 5 April 2015 (UTC) Admin rights would be great as well so that I can make edits in the MediaWiki namespace. --Brackenheim (talk) 11:02, 17 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

Same here. --L235 (talk) enwiki 05:13, 16 April 2015 (UTC)Reply
Nemo: This'll sound a bit pushy, but Brackenheim's request has been open for a long time now. Brackenheim is an experienced translator and importer, and does great work on wm2015, so I see no reason not to grant, and there's been no response. So would you mind also giving Brackenheim (and maybe me as well, but Brackenheim has a longer track record on Wikimania wikis) b'crat rights (unless you don't want them, Brackenheim) so that local requests are handled promptly, since he is far more active than you on this/these wikis? Sorry 'bout the tone of this comment. Thanks! --L235 (talk) enwiki 01:58, 19 April 2015 (UTC)Reply
@L235: Thank you for your trust! I'd be glad to get some new experience as a bureaucrat. --Brackenheim (talk) 11:00, 19 April 2015 (UTC)Reply
Thanks L235 for the email today. Sorry for the delay, I've not received notifications due to a minor edit (phabricator:T96564 will help). It's a joy to see people taking care of this wiki already, I'm happy to swiftly help with all flags needed. :)
As I said above, it's not time to translate any page which already exists at Meta or wikimania2015wiki, because they'll be imported (or not) later on... opinions on the matter probably deserve their own section, I think.
So, I gave Brackenheim translation rights. For the other flags please mention what's the task at hand. I don't remember discussions foreseeing massive imports, ns8 edits, translation adminship recruitments etc., so it's not obvious to me what they're needed for. --Nemo 14:47, 20 April 2015 (UTC)Reply
@Nemo bis: Thanks for the swift response to the email. I'll start a section below (in a bit) for permission for future imports and explaining the imports and I'll email you when I need flags changes. I wasn't exactly sure where to put the discussions; this seems to be requests for action, not permission; should a village pump or similar be set up? Thanks, --L235 (talk) enwiki 16:02, 20 April 2015 (UTC)Reply
Hello Nemo, thank you for my translation rights. Of course I won't mark all the pages for translation, but before I marked Template:Attend/Intro for translation there was an "error" on Attendees with the TNT-template, so it is fixed now. To the admin rights: I just wanted to create some translations of MediaWiki-subpages like MediaWiki:Attendees/de. Kind regards, --Brackenheim (talk) 16:09, 20 April 2015 (UTC)Reply
@Nemo bis: Could I have sysop and translate admin flags in here, please? In order to do pretty the same work as in 2015's wiki: translating wiki. To help on this wiki, When Wikimania 2015 is over.--Grind24 (talk) 21:44, 28 May 2015 (UTC)Reply
Done Thank you for your contributions. Kind regards, --Brackenheim (talk) 22:19, 28 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

Imports

@Nemo bis, Brackenheim: Ping. (This is my account for public computers; I thought I could post this since I have a few free minutes.) I've been importing (on User:L235 major templates and modules that almost all wikis have, afaik; that's mainly the set of mbox modules and convenience lua modules that make coding and importing easier. I'll hold off on importing modules for now, but I'd like to obtain permission here to continue with that. Brackenheim: by the way, I'd be happy to do any MediaWiki namespace edits for you, but Nemo, I'd still recommend you give admin rights to him. There's really no possible abuse potential with giving flags; at any time you are allowed to request their removal from the stewards at m:SRP and all of us have strong contrib records. Thanks, --L235 (alt / t / c / enwiki) 19:30, 20 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

@Nemo bis: Response please? --L235 (talk) enwiki 16:09, 21 April 2015 (UTC)Reply
@Nemo bis: To remind you, there are three open requests on this page: the one above, Brackenheim's request for sysop rights, and my request for translateadmin. It's slightly frustrating and inconvenient that they haven't been responded to yet, causing us to do some workarounds, such as me moving Brackenheim's translations into MediaWiki space, and has stopped other work, such as importing vital templates and modules. Thanks, --L235 (talk) enwiki 22:50, 28 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

Flags request

Could I and Base have sysop and translate admin flags on this wiki, please? We'd like to do pretty the same work as on wikis of two previous Wikimanias: translating wiki, including sidebar and other things in interface which are not from translatewiki.net, to Ukrainian and perhaps a little to Russian and translation administration of the wiki (both TA in several wikis); deleting spam/offtopic pages etc. Can promise all possible help -- Ата (talk) 14:58, 21 July 2015 (UTC)Reply

It’s impossible to start too early ;-) so I’d like to hook Ата & Base and ask for admin & translation admin rights, too. I am admin in deWP since 2013 and also in the Wikimania-2015-Wiki, cf. Special:CentralAuth/Schniggendiller, wm2015:Special:Contributions/Schniggendiller and wm2015:Special:Log/Schniggendiller. To be honest, I haven’t used my translation admin rights in the Wikimania-2015-Wiki though I translated some stuff. Reason: I’m not familiar with the translation extension and hadn’t enough time to learn how to handle it :-/ I hope that I will have more time before Wikimania 2016. Regards --Schniggendiller (talk) 22:17, 22 July 2015 (UTC)Reply

@Ата and Schniggendiller: Done Enjoy, that you have more work now ;-)
@Base: Could you confirm, that you are interested in such rights? Kind regards, --Brackenheim (talk) 22:05, 23 July 2015 (UTC)Reply
Thank you! -- Ата (talk) 07:20, 24 July 2015 (UTC)Reply
Brackenheim, indeed I am interested. --Base (talk) 07:23, 24 July 2015 (UTC)Reply
Thank you :-) Regards --Schniggendiller (talk) 07:42, 24 July 2015 (UTC)Reply
Ok, all Done. Thank you for your help. ;-) --Brackenheim (talk) 08:49, 24 July 2015 (UTC)Reply

Is it also possible for me to request the admin flag? I am a translator on translatewiki and can help with translations, but I ask it mainly to be able to fix bugs and to delete spam and such if I see it. I often serve as trouble shooter and being able to fix things would make it easier for me. Thanks! Romaine (talk) 05:05, 2 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

Also Done. --Brackenheim (talk) 09:42, 2 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

"Travel", linked from the , currently redirects to "Journey". As the sidebar should avoid linking to a redirect, either the page should be moved back to "Travel" or the link at MediaWiki:Sidebar should be changed to "Journey". Imho, the better option is to restore the page's location to "Travel", but I'm not the one writing this wiki. Philosopher (talk) 23:32, 5 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

@Philosopher: Done. Sorry for the delay, and thanks for bringing to our attention. --L235 (talk) enwiki 17:21, 23 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

Translation adminship and regular adminship

Can you give me TA and sysop rights here, so I could help preparing as I helped with Wikimania 2015? Thanks in advance! --Ochilov (talk) 01:17, 7 September 2015 (UTC)Reply

Done for TA. Do you really need admin rights? Could you explain what you want to do with them? Kind regards, --Brackenheim (talk) 10:05, 7 September 2015 (UTC)Reply
Brackenheim, actually I need to patrol recent changes (patroller flag included to sysop's, isn't it?), and have a rollbacker's flag. There are no separated flags for them, so I asked for sysop's. --Ochilov (talk) 10:26, 7 September 2015 (UTC)Reply
Ok, enjoy your new work now ;-) --Brackenheim (talk) 13:07, 7 September 2015 (UTC)Reply
Thank you very much :) --Ochilov (talk) 13:47, 7 September 2015 (UTC)Reply

Hello Brackenheim, I would like to also have sysop tools to perform many tasks. I'm sysop for several years on WMCA, WP-fr, Commons, Outreach and I know how to use these tools proprely. Also, I am one of the organizers as per Iolanda and Ginevra asked me to organize thematic meetups. I would like to have these tools for page deletion, sytem messages management (including the sidebar menu in several languages), admin translation, and eventually, if needed, help on CSS and JS pages to import some tools / scripts. If you need more infos, feel free to ask. Best regards, Benoit Rochon (talk) 14:34, 21 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

TA and sysop rights granted. Kind regards, --Brackenheim (talk) 14:40, 21 October 2015 (UTC)Reply
Danke schön Brackenheim. Best regards, Benoit Rochon (talk) 23:41, 9 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

FAQ

Is it possible to create a link to FAQ in the sidebar? Thanks. --Yiyi 18:32, 29 November 2015 (UTC)Reply

Done -- Ата (talk) 09:48, 30 November 2015 (UTC)Reply
Grazie! --Yiyi 15:32, 30 November 2015 (UTC)Reply

Pages to be moved

We need to move soon Submissions/Draft to Submissions, but it's impossible due to translation problems. Thank you. --Marcok (talk) 07:37, 11 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

I had no problems ;-) Kind regards, --Brackenheim (talk) 16:32, 11 December 2015 (UTC)Reply
Thank you very much! :-) --MLWatts (talk) 19:31, 11 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

Translations

Hi. I made an edit on FAQ page (this one). Now, how can I mark it for the translation? --Yiyi 09:47, 15 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

Hi Yiyi, only translation administrators can mark changes for translation. --Brackenheim (talk) 09:56, 15 December 2015 (UTC)Reply
Ok, so the easiest way is to report new edits here? Or maybe I can become translation administrator, but I need some instructions. --Yiyi 10:41, 15 December 2015 (UTC)Reply
Well, the easiest way is to wait, until a translation admin looks at the changes listet on Special:PageTranslation and marks them for translation. But if you want, you can read the instructions on meta and become a translation admin. --Brackenheim (talk) 15:30, 16 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

about translate

我想知道Wikimania是否需要一个中文页面?这是否有价值? i want to know if the Wikimania need a Chinese page?Is it valueable? --Clear Sky C (talk) 10:38, 21 December 2015 (UTC)Clear Sky CReply

Special:PageTranslation is a list of pages ready for tranlsation in different languages including Chinese. If you want, you can help in the translation of those pages. To translate a page, click on the relative link and then click on "Translate this page" (placed over the available language list). Thanks. --Yiyi 22:42, 21 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

ULS for anonymous users

Hey Esino Lario team! I just fiddle with the 2017 wiki to make the Universal Language Selector work for anonymous users. Well, "work"; it's a variation of the trick used on Commons. But it still allows anon users to switch to a language from the ULS, for both content and UI. Look at wm2017:Mediawiki:AnonymousI18N.js for the code.  :-) Coren (talk) 21:14, 6 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

At @Nemo:'s request on IRC I deployed this on this wiki as well.  :-) Coren (talk) 21:36, 6 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

Interface translation

Hello!! How can I translate the interface of this wiki. I took a look both in Meta and Translatewiki and didn't find the messages. Neither on Special:LanguageStats here. Can I have a hint.-- Glavkos (talk) 19:27, 9 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

Hi, Glavkos! Only admins can edit interface here. Maybe, you can translate interface and then send me? --Ochilov (talk) 19:38, 9 January 2016 (UTC)Reply
Or you write your translation on the talk page and an admin moves it into the MediaWiki namespace. --Brackenheim (talk) 21:14, 9 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

Translations

Hi! I made big edits on theese pages: Submissions, Critical issues presentations. Now they need to be signed for translation. Who can do this? --Yiyi 08:36, 23 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

Request for adminship

Hi all, I would need admin rights in order to manage page histories containing sensitive personal data. May I? :) --MLWatts (talk) 19:40, 14 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

Done --Yiyi 23:44, 9 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

File upload

Dear all, I need a sysop because I need to upload some logos on this wiki, but uploads are disabled. See https://wikimania2016.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:Upload Thanks. --Yiyi 13:36, 3 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

Ok, now I'm a sysop. Could someone check my edit to MediaWiki:Licenses? Then, I uploaded an image, but I can't see it in my sandbox: User:Yiyi/Sandbox5. Why? --Yiyi 14:12, 3 March 2016 (UTC)Reply
I’m not familiar with MediaWiki:Licenses.
Your file isn’t visible on it’s file description page either, only it’s full-size version works. Probably the file is somehow corrupted … → it:Progetto:Laboratorio grafico/Immagini da migliorare? Regards --Schniggendiller (talk) 17:04, 6 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

Vandalism

Hi,

It seems that 216.11.46.10 is vandalising. For now, I reverted its edit.

Not sure if vandalism but can someone look at Start ? Cdlt, VIGNERON (talk) 17:26, 13 May 2016 (UTC)Reply

Translations from Italian to English

Hi, we have this page in Italian. Is it possible to translate the page in English with the Translate extension? --Yiyi 14:28, 18 March 2016 (UTC)Reply
