Title: OpenStreetMap workshop

Description: The goal of this workshop is to familiarize with the OpenStreetMap world, how to edit, how it is relevant from a wikipedia/wikimedia prospective. The workshop will be divided into two sections:

  • Hands-on: editing using different tools: JOSM and iD editing, from osmose to wtosm, to maproulette to pure .
  • Intro: Introductory talk on how OSM data is organized and how it can be accessed and used.

Purpose: To close the gap between OpenStreetMap and the Wikimedia initiatives.

Targeted participants:

  • Anyone interested
  • Wikipedians with an interest in maps
  • Commons user with an interest in geocoding information
  • People that want to discover more on mapmaking
  • Developers with an interest on geo-information

Preparatory readings or materials:

  • An updated tutorial will be created in the coming weeks

What else would you like to work on?

If you would like to suggest activities or topics to be covered. It can be pretty flexible, I'm open to changes and will try to accommodate needs of the participants.
