Description:

In the IdeaLab Workshop, we're collaboratively turning ideas into action.
Do you….
  • Have an idea for a project to improve Wikimedia?
  • Want feedback or help obtaining funding to turn your idea into action?
  • Have skills you can share with someone else’s ideas/projects/grants?
  • Have a key learning from a past project to share with others?
  • Just generally feel curious about what IdeaLab is and how you can get involved?
In this interactive session we’ll work together to:
  • show you what’s new in IdeaLab, an incubator on meta-wiki for people to turn ideas into projects to improve Wikimedia projects, websites, and communities.
  • write-up new ideas and turn old ideas into project plans or grant proposals
  • write-up key learning from past projects in the form of Learning Patterns
Bring your ideas from the conference so far, your project/learning/skills, or a friend you've just met at Wikimania, and let’s turn ideas into actionable projects together!

Purpose: The purpose of this hands-on workshop is to help participants share, brainstorm, collaborate and build on ideas for improving Wikimedia projects. Support will be provided to turn ideas that need funding into grant proposals. We will provide instruction about how to use IdeaLab and provide a brief overview of WMF grant programs.

Targeted participants:

  • Wikimedians who have ideas about how to improve any of our projects and are looking for thought partners, collaborators and/or funding
  • Wikimedians who want to support others' ideas
  • Existing or former grantees are welcome

Preparatory readings or materials:

  • None required, but participants are welcome to check out IdeaLab or WMF Grants on Meta.
