Wikimania involves a series of special guests, who contribute to the event in person or through a video.
Special guests in the video
Guests are people we are interested in involving at Wikimania and we trust they can contribute in a significant way to the question:
- Wikipedia as a driver for change is the theme of Wikimania 2016.
- The gathering is organized in Esino Lario, a mountain village in the Alps: the process of organizing the event is itself a demonstration of cooperation, policentrism and empowerment.
- Given your experience and expertise, what are the benefits and the challenges of the effort to build inclusive and shared knowledge?
We want to collect contributions which open up our understanding of how Wikipedia and its dynamics can be a driver for change, and in purpose our focus is not only on Wikipedia but more generically on the meaning and impact of this collecting effort of producing an inclusive and shared knowledge.
Video interviews are no longer than 1.5–2 minutes and they all focus on the same question. The video interviews can be produced by recording Skype conversations, can be self-made or can involve a team. The principal language will be English; we will ask help to the community to add subtitles. We will require guests to sign an authorization to release their interview under cc by-sa. We are checking the possibility of including in the video interviews some drawings or animations.
Distribution and use
We are producing these video interviews to collect content, endorsements, to involve at Wikimania 2016 people we care about who have difficulties in joining us in Esino Lario, to involve people who can tell us relevant things but are not necessarily interested in our tribal meeting, and to listen to their answers. We are sharing these videos on Wikimedia Commons and Youtube and disseminate them through our website and social networks and during the conference by using the projectors before the presentations and other screens. We expect videos to be organized by different chapters.
