Programme/Training/Basic Wikipedia

From Wikimania 2016 • Esino Lario, Italy

If you have never edited Wikipedia before, and perhaps feel a little nervous about where to start, this is the session for you!

Andy Mabbett (User:Pigsonthewing), an experienced Wikipedia editor, Wikimedian-in-Residence, and Wikipedia trainer, will take you through the basics of how Wikipedia articles are made, and how you can make edits, from simple grammatical changes, or the updating or addition of single facts, right through (if you want to!) to writing your first new article.

Bring your laptop, and an idea of something to write about (you will need to cite a source, whether that is a reliable website, or a journal, or a book).

The session will be in English, and will use the English-language Wikipedia, but the skills learned will translate to other Wikipedias, or sister projects.

To save time, please sign up in advance for a Wikipedia account (preferably before arriving at Wikimania!), using the Wikipedia in your own language (one account works across all projects). Don't forget to bring a note of your account name and password with you!
