Abstract

There is something everyone can do for Wikimedia. To bring newbies to Wikimedia, targeted recruitment works the best. My presentation will focus on finding enthusiastic people from the crowd and coaching them to become dedicated Wikimedians.

The number of active Wikipedia editors has been falling since 2007. Activities aimed at increasing the number of editors, such as edit-a-thons, had low 6 monthly retention rate. It is probable that the retention rates of outreach events can be improved by creating tailor-made modules for homogeneous groups of newbies. I will talk about finding and assigning appropriate tasks for newcomers to get started with Wikimedia so that they find volunteering as fun and useful.
