Abstract

15 French-speaking Wikipedia editors, supported by Wikimédia France, worked to design a Massive Online Open Course (MOOC), to learn how to contribute to Wikipedia and discover more about the way it works.

The brand new WikiMOOC lasted for 5 weeks and took place from Feb 22nd to March 27th 2016. More than 2000 persons registered to attend this course. The WikiMOOC was hosted on a well-known French platform powered by the Ministry of Education and Research, in France, called France Université Numérique aka FUN.

The aims of the WikiMOOC are the following : have a broader audience discover how Wikipedia works, recruit new editors, especially targetting women and people coming from French speaking countries (Africa mainly), and therefore diversify editors profiles on French Wikipedia.

The video-lessons are under CC-BY-SA license, and are available on Wikimedia Commons to make their reuse - and perhaps translation - easier for everyone.
