Abstract

Wikimedia Israel noticed a significant slowdown in the activity at the Hebrew Wiktionary project. The chapter contacted the four main active editors and suggested to boost the project through cooperation with the chapter. As a result, the chapter initiated a strong collaboration with the Academy of the Hebrew Language, which is considered the highest authority on Hebrew language issues. All three parties started a course for new editors, which proved very successful. The 10-meeting course, which included basic training in lexicography and Media-Wiki, brought about the enlargement of the Hebrew Wiktionary community and a significant increase of the editing activity. The Hebrew Wiktionary community and Wikimedia Israel initiated further activities to boost the project, such as writing contests, community meetups etc.

The biggest challenge for the chapter is to make the project's community self-sufficient. Indeed, the amount of desired chapter involvement is a matter for discussion, which we would like to conduct in this Wikimania session.
